gordian knot

Gordian Knot is a publication that features the eccentric intellectualism of University of Chicago students. The writings, images, ideas, problems, and puzzles that have repeatedly
defined and redefined the goals and ideals of the magazine (and now, blog!) over the past four years come from those who embrace the challenges of the world –- large and
small -– with beautiful innovation. The godian knot blog will share posts about revolutionary ideas, creativity, technology, and communities that express inspirational innovation.

A New WPA: Why a Sustainable Future Demands Cultural Recovery

So sorry about the late notice, but the Cultural Policy Center at the University just hosted three events with Arlene Goldbard this week who writes and consults on the intersection of culture, politics, and community.  She talked about an old way to think about this new recession; how to get out of it AND save the arts.  Talk in the arts community about starting a new WPA with Obama has been circulating for a few years now.

Read about what this entails: how artists got to work in the 1930s, again in the 1970s, and what initiatives are taking hold in the 21st century.
